"Aria" Richard Rodriguez

Image
In this reading, the Author Richard Rodriguez main argument is that, in any type of school students that have grown up in a bilingual home shouldn’t be discouraged to not speak their language whether that’s Spanish, French, Italian or any other language. Rodriguez continues to talk about when he was in school,  he would of felt less afraid and trusted the teachers more and would of responded with ease if the teachers had greeted him in Spanish. He also believed that the English language is not for him to use. His teachers at the school were getting frustrated with Rodriguez because he only wanted to speak Spanish because that’s what he was more comfortable with. In the reading Rodriguez teachers asks his parents if they could practice speaking English at home so he would be more comfortable speaking it in school. Nobody should have to give up their dominate language just to fit in and be socially accepted by others around them. On page 34 it states, “ they agreed to giv...

Amazing Grace, Kozol

Jonathan Kozol  Amazing Grace              The author Jonathan Kozol main point in this reading is that, if some children grow up in an environment that isn’t healthy for them to be around, they could potentially grow into those poor habits around them. Kozol uses Brook Avenue in New York as an example. The author states, “In 1991 the median household income was $7,600 according to New York Times (pg.3, Kozol).” A pastor from St. Ann Church states, “More than 95 percent are poor, the poorest of the poor, poor by any standard I can think of (pg. 3, Kozol).” Both of these quotes can show people that the people who do live in these environment’s will be exposed to many things meaning drugs, alcohol or may have to give up some things in order to surviving meaning possibly going through a few nights without heat in order to eat. As you continue to read the author also states, “Nearly 4,000 heroin injectors, many who...

Nicholas Kristof   U.S.A, Land of Limitations?             In the beginning of this article, it explains how America is all about giving everyone an equal chance in order to succeed. However, this author Nicholas Kristof argues that depending on your economic mobility the quote “land of opportunities” may not be so true. He explains how if you were born in a low income family there is a limited chance of becoming successful and accomplishing your goals. In the fourth paragraph Kristof states, “The chance of a person who was born to a family in the bottom 10 percent of the income distribution rising to the top 10 percent as an adult is about the same as the chance that a dad who is 5 feet 6 inches tall having a son who grows up to be over 6 feet 1 inch tall.” Also in the third paragraph Kristof states, a child born in the bottom quintile of incomes in the United States only has a 4 percent chance of rising to the ...

I love to do fun/crazy things while I'm not at school or working. In this picture I went skydiving in Pepperell Massachusetts.
