Option 5 Extended Comment, "In Service Of What? The Politics Of Service Learning."
For my blog post I am choosing option number five which is extended comments on someone else’s blog. For my blog post I will be writing it based on my classmate Emily Giuliani’s blog post. In the beginning she makes a broad statement staying although the article addresses educational matters, politics is politics no matter what, they are ignoring to address one of the biggest problems which is sexism and I couldn’t agree more with her. With today’s generation sexism is being ignored just as much as education where it shouldn’t. Today many people are scared to face the unknow never-mind address it but times are changing and so are people whether everyone likes it or not, it’s what we have to face and try to understand and accept it. Emily addresses how both articles show major impact in a political view but in two different ways. She addresses how there’s a lack of education due to issues like native language, race and gender where now girls are getting looked down on the same way children of color do. She makes a statement saying in her service learning project “there must be equality for every single child” where it’s the same view in my service learning project. But besides that no matter where you are, everyone should be treated as an equal and nothing less. No matter who you are or where ever you come from that de-finds you as a person and people should be able to accept and respect that. Later on Emily addresses how charity is so important to children in need. I agree with her statement, “Helping them can impact both you and them.” You can never truly understand what someone is going through unless you see it for yourself or pretend to be in their shoes for a day. For anyone that’s in need, being able to help them in any way and making their day is such a warming, unexplainable feeling that everyone should be able to experience. In today’s generation no one understands how amazing it is to give back and make a difference and too me many children and young adults today have no idea what it’s like to struggle because everyone now gets everything handed to them without working hard. After reading Kahne and Westheimer’s article, its truly eye opening. It shows everyone who is reading it that taking part in service learning projects can change your outlook and way of thinking. Everyone should be able to experience something like the stores in the article. Overall I couldn’t agree more with all the points Emily had made in her blog post. The quotes she uses and statements she had made were spot on.
QUESTION: What are your views on helping out people in need? Do you think it’s a good idea for children and young adults in today’s generation to start making a change? Or is it already too late?
Thanks for choosing mine! I really like the points you added on, and the picture is funny as well. Your questions are really good, especially the last one. Hopefully we discuss this in class, but I hope it's not too late! I think for young kids it's never too late though.
ReplyDeletehi Brooke, I like the way you chose to do your blog. you made some good points and I like the pictures you've included. for your question, I think that its a good thing for young adults to get involved, it teaches them many things like communication, independency, and give them different perspectives that could follow them and benefit them in their academics and later careers.
